Evening glow Wasdale Original Oil Painting – SOLD

Wastwater the Lake  is almost 3 miles long and more than one-third mile wide. It is the deepest lake in England at 258 feet, and is owned by the National Trust. It is one of the finest examples of a glacially ‘over-deepened’ valley. The surface of the lake is about 200 feet above sea level, while its bottom is over 50 feet below sea level. Wastwater is perhaps the most awe-inspiring of all the lakes. Surrounded by mountains, Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Scafell Pike – England’s highest mountain.

Snow scenes are something I like doing a lot, especially with Oils. The glow of a fire shining out of a window in the distance certainly makes me want to be inside. Warming in front of a roaring fire. For me there’s nothing like the magic of snow on the landscape. it changes an ordinary scene into a something much more special. Some people could call them twee, but for me they are wrapped up in a kind of nostalgia. Also comforting warmth and cosiness that’s hard to describe but a real draw to paint, something you feel inside.

I think my style of painting is one which has developed over time and is still evolving with each new painting. Capturing a sense of realism, of being there, without being a slave to photo realism. Its also important to keep pushing the boundaries of what your comfortable with, not to settle into a formula of what works.
